What makes a good Geographer? Our Intent
We encourage children build a sound subject knowledge of the world around us. We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. By the end of Year 6, children should extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. They should develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge. Our teachers depict this through showing passion for the world around us, through regular practical forest school sessions, promoting meaningful opportunities for discussion. Moreover, we ensure that children make sense of the world through language, showing the ability to acquire, arrange, and use geographic information.
