High Quality Teaching and Learning - Implementation
Physical education is taught by our dedicated and passionate teaching team, led by our own Mr Yates; teacher, qualified sports coach and swimming coach. Our school site has two large grassed fields, a soft surface running track and two hard courts/netball courts. Our children also have access to a Rope Ravine, an outdoor gym, an embankment slide, and a fixed obstacle course throughout the day. Children are also encouraged to play with logs, tires and balance boards within our free play provision within the woodland environment.
Our older children have the opportunity to become 'Play Leaders' developing their leadership roles and supporting the physical development of their younger peers. All areas are open during playtimes, giving children the choice of more structured games, inventive games, imaginative play, conversation and quiet spaces.

Knowledge and Skills
Academic Year Overview Long Term Plan
Our teachers use and adapt the REAL PE Scheme which plans for an active, healthy primary school-aim for access to at least 60 minutes a day. Our pupils are challenged, and motivated both physically and mentally and demonstrate a high level of learning.
If you require any further information or paper copies, please contact Mr Yates our PE Lead via the school office on 01925 266764 or email office@appletonthorn.tcat.uk.com
Movement and 'Brain Breaks' throughout the day
Children often use 5 minute works that are created by Joe Wicks. Also, each class has a 15 minute slot on the track for their daily mile.
Extra Curricular Sports
Football Clubs - These are run by Mr Yates and Mr Williams for KS2, and an external provider for KS1. These give children the chance to develop into a team and then take part in competitions throughout the year.
Rugby Club - The children within the club get a chance to represent the school at the Fire 7s tournament at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Running Club - A popular early morning club that wakes even the most sleepy head. Running competitions held at Walton Gardens on a Saturday morning and cross-country events in the summer term.
Tennis Club - We have specialist coaches who give high quality lessons to our children on our hard courts, in the mornings.
